I was very happy to wear my new pullover, Cary, to work yesterday. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment to complete a large project. And it feels good to wear something you made to fit you exactly the way you wanted.
Cary was knit from the top down using a combination of patterns from Knitting Pure and Simple, Barbara Walker’s Knitting from the Top, and Custom Knits by Wendy Bernard. The yarn is Koigu’s wonderful Kersti in color K2395-3. I used 12 hanks.
A top down raglan is a fantastic first sweater project. There are lots of great patterns to follow from any of the sources I listed above. There’s also still room in the Sweater Class that starts next Monday, if you want guidance from a teacher and the camaraderie of other knitters!
Now I’m thinking that I’d like to knit myself a cardigan. I have 9 more hanks of this beautiful brown Kersti; is it overkill to use it again?

i say go for the cardigan!!!!
i love the color
Your new sweater looks great on you. You can always use a cardigan, maybe with a few cables on the fronts?
Thanks, knitxcore! I’ve felt the call of Brown Sheep Nature Spun Worsted in grecian olive for the cardigan. But I’ll come back to the Kersti again.
Thank you, too, Shirley! Yes, cables would be nice. I have this vintage pattern with one cable on each front that I’m considering.
