Koigu P163

Back in February, I received a special delivery from Rhichard at Koigu Wool Designs – my very own dye lot! It’s color P163 and I have dye lots 1 and 2. It’s bright and beautiful and has red, orange, gold, lots of greens and purple. I was so happy with it that I kept both dye lots in my office, not wanting to put it out for sale until I knew what I wanted to do with it.

The problem is, I couldn’t decide. I knew that I wanted to make something special with it, but nothing seemed right. I wound a hank and knit a swatch, waiting for the yarn to tell me what it wanted to be. It didn’t. So I knit a baby bootie, then another – though not the same – and I started a hat. Still it wasn’t right. So I set it aside and moved on, thinking something would come to me. And it did.

I’d just finished a pair of socks that I’d started not expecting to finish (I often begin socks, but don’t get much beyond the first cuff). I wore them to work and was so happy to be wearing them that – BING! – a light when on and I realized that I should make socks with my P163. With socks, I can wear and enjoy them year-round.

I looked at the great new sock books that have come out this year for a pattern. But the patterns just would’ve detracted from the yarn. So it’s going to be stockinette socks knit from the toe up.

Koigu Sock

Every stitch is beautiful. I love the watch the colors change as I knit.

I finally put P163 out for sale. If you knit with it, please show me what you’ve done!

  2. [...] finished the socks I was knitting with the Koigu that Rhichard dyed for me in time to wear them to the yarn market earlier this month. I was glad to be able to wear them to [...]
