Herringbone Neckwarmer Revisited
Since I knit the first one in December 2007, the Herringbone Neckwarmer has become one of our winter staples. It’s a fun stitch patterns, knits up quickly when you need a last minute knitted gift, and is as practical as it is beautiful. Unfortunately, this season, the yarn that we used is not available. So we’re branching out, and here’s the first effort.

This version was knit with 1 hank of Aslantrends new hand dyed worsted weight yarn, Bariloche. It’s a soft merino blend and comes in beautiful colorways. Of course, I always choose brown. I even had on my brown fish t-shirt the day we took pictures, as you can see.

We’ll be trying out other yarns this fall and will show you the results!

Aw no more Sheep 1 this year? I’m currently working on a hat/mitten/neckwarmer set with it. The hat is done, mittens are in progress and your neckwarmer pattern is next!

Love both the neckwarmer *and* the brown fish shirt.

I know, Jaime, I was disappointed too. Sheep Shop is looking for new yarn sources and will hopefully return next fall.
Thanks, Amy! The t-shirt’s from Art Star in Northern Liberties. Just one of many cool things they have there!

Hi Craig – I think this yarn looks great for the herringbone neckwarmer. I’m swatching this same stitch right now in a Lorna’s Laces Shepherd worsted (in Intrigue) that I got from you guys last month. Love how it looks. Btw, love the pebble cowl! – Leslie

Hey Leslie, I’m glad the Shepherd Worsted’s looking good. I like the color you chose!

I am encountering so many difficulties with this pattern – I understand on row 1: the sl1, k1, psso – but when you state to knit through the back loop first???? what are you referring to? I read the previous comments but still am having problems with the stitch pattern.
In row 2 when you say drop both stitches off of the needle do you mean to transfer them to the right needle? I am so confused with this stitch pattern – I have been starring at it for the last hour trying to figure out just where the increases are. I have knitted hats, scarve and may other things in the past but I just can’t seem to wrap my head around this one and I love the look of it – please let me know what you can do.
