We’re excited to welcome Laura Nelkin to Loop on April 9 and 10 for her first visit! Laura is the owner of Nelkin Designs. For the last 5 years, she’s been the Creative Director for Schaefer Yarn. She recently resigned from that position so she can focus on her design company and her teaching full-time.
Laura’s designs have appeared in Shaefer’s pattern collection, as well as Knitty, knitting magazines like Knit ‘N Style and Creative Knitting, and several books like Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn (by Philadelphia’s own Carol Sulcoski!) and Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders.
One of Laura’s specialties is lace knitting with beads. And that’s what she’ll be teaching during her visit.

Undulating Waves Scarf
$60 – Sunday, April 10 from 10am to 3pm (with 1-hour break from 12-1)
The Undulating Waves Scarf is based on a lace pattern that is worked on both the knit and purl sides of the fabric, which allows the beads to float on the yarn-overs. This pattern can be a bit “tricksy” to figure out so working together in a class is a great way to learn it! You will learn about knitting with beads, reading charts, and lace knitting techniques. This is a class for intermediate level knitters. Undulating Waves pattern included (click here to read more about Undulating Waves).

Spring is a wonderful season for lace. It’s cool to knit on when the weather is warm – and you don’t have to wait for winter to wear your new shawl or scarf.
