Lillie’s Little Sweater is one of the many fantastic designs by Carol Anderson of Cottage Creations. A student of Elizabeth Zimmerman, Carol’s devotion to seamless knitting results in innovative techniques. For Lillie’s Little Sweater, that means starting with the hood and ending at the hems. If that sounds confusing, don’t worry, Carol’s patterns are very thorough and are supported by her daughter’s charming illustrations.
We chose Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran yarn for our version of Lillie’s Little Sweater. It’s a soft blend of merino, microfiber, and cashmere, and it comes in a large palette of beautiful colors. Cashmerino Aran is also machine washable, which is a plus for kids’ clothes.
Don’t be fooled by the name Lillie or that we paired ours with a plaid skirt – this cardigan is truly unisex. I could even see this color red on a little boy, maybe with different buttons, and a pair of chinos.
There are also lots of opportunities for adding color to the cardigan. Use a contrast color for the hood, the sleeves, the button bands – or all three! You could add bold stripes to the sleeves or body, or work two-row stripes throughout. You can knit this pattern again and again and each one will be unique.
Lillie’s Little Sweater is a good choice for your first sweater or first top-down cardigan. It’s a fun pattern to knit and it will keep your little one cozy and warm!
