Reusable shopping bags are an easy way to be eco-friendly. And a knit bag makes a chic summer accessory, too! So for August’s Knitalong, we’re making the Shetland Shopper by Gudrun Johnston.
I like Gudrun’s shopper for several reasons: it’s knit in the round, it starts with a slightly challenging, but very clever cast on, and it uses a traditional Shetland Lace motif.
For our shopper, we’ll be using Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy yarn. It’s a wonderful non-wool yarn made of cotton, hemp, and modal. Modal is a type of rayon that’s often made from beech trees. Hempathy is soft from the start, unlike other non-wool yarns, yet it’s strong enough to carry whatever goodies you may find in your travels!
Hempathy is the August Yarn of the Month, so it’s 10% off now through August 31. You’ll need 2 balls to make the shopper. Pick your color now; the Knitalong starts August 1. I hope you’ll join us!

It’s probably me, but I can’t find the # of stitches to cast on for this pattern. I’ve read and re-read the pattern.
