Stephen West Class + Trunk Show

Stephen West returns to Loop on Sunday, October 14. From 1 to 4pm, he’s teaching an intermediate/advanced version of his Top Down Shawl Workshop; from 4 to 6pm he’ll be in the shop for a book signing and trunk show.

If you already own Westknits Book One, Book Two, and/or Book Three, feel free to bring them for Stephen to sign. Otherwise, we’ll have all three, plus the new Westknits Book Four available for purchase.

Top Down Shawl Workshop
$60 – Sunday, October 14 from 1 to 4pm

In this workshop Stephen uses his popular shawl designs to talk about shape, construction, and drape. You’ll knit a small triangular swatch while topics such as cast ons, increases, bind offs, and blocking are discussed. Special emphasis will be focused on different shaping techniques. You will also learn some of Stephen’s favorite tips and tricks!

Materials: scrap yarn and needles of choice for a swatch (worsted weight recommended)

Homework: Familiarize yourself with Make One Left and Make One Right increases if you have never encountered them before.

If you’re new to knitting or haven’t encountered Stephen before, he is a knitwear designer who’s known for his use of simple stitch patterns, color, and clever shapes. His early designs, like Little Colonnade and the Botanic Hat, are wonderful introductions to his work and style. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephen began knitting when he lived in Chicago, Illinois. He now lives in Amsterdam where he studies Choreography at the School for New Dance Development and travels frequently teaching knitting workshops throughout the United States and Europe.
