South Street Pullover

With my nephews getting older – the youngest is 4 and a half, the oldest will be 7 next month – I’ll admit, I haven’t been knitting them sweaters. When they were babies, a sweater took a week or two. They’re not that big now, but big enough that sweaters take longer.

They’re only going to get bigger, though, and soon they may not want to wear hand knit sweaters from their uncle. I’ve resolved to knit them both a sweater this year.

I want to make them something simple and comfortable. And something my brother and sister-in-law can easily clean.

South Street Pullover

With this in mind, the South Street Pullover was born. It’s a seamless pullover that’s knit from the top-down in one of my favorite superwash yarns, Spud & Chloe Sweater. With one-by-one ribbing at the neck, cuffs, and hem, and stockinette body and sleeves, it’s a classic sweater – perfect for everything from family holiday celebrations to their many weekend activities.

South Street is a great jumping-off point for a variety of looks. You can knit to the armhole division in one color and make the remainder in another; you can knit stripes from top to bottom; you could insert a band or two of your favorite Fair Isle motif. There are lots of ways to make it your own!

For my first one, I just went with Sweater Yarn in Billiard. It’s a lovely, blue-green that’s very popular right now. This sweater’s too small for either nephew, so I’ll knit two more – and maybe throw in some stripes!

The South Street Pullover is available in two versions – for Babies and for Kids – which are sold separately. Follow the links to purchase your copy.

  1. I love it! Once I get through all the baby gifts that I need to knit, my little guy is getting one of these.
