Favorite Scarves in Woolstok

Our Favorite Scarves use simple stitch patterns for a tried & true classic look. Our latest versions are knit in new Blue Sky yarn, Woolstok. A worsted weight 100% fine Peruvian wool, Woolstok is a soft, delightful wool perfect for our favorite scarves.

Woolstok comes in a beautiful variety of hues. Every color comes in a 50g hank, but a selection of 5 neutrals comes in mega 150g hanks. That’s what we used for our scarves- just one skein each!

A Certain Darkness in Canopy Fingering

It’s time to start layering, and the snuggly softness of Canopy Fingering definitely needs a place in your Fall wardrobe. A simple shawl with a pretty edging, A Certain Darkness by Sylvia McFadden is the vehicle for that incredible coziness!

Canopy Fingering is a luxe blend of baby alpaca, merino and bamboo. The alpaca & merino are super soft and the bamboo adds drape and a touch of shine. The fabric knits up light and warm; just what you’re looking for in chilly weather!

A Certain Darkness is worked sideways and on the bias, creating a triangular shape in a unique way. Mostly stockinette with a few garter ridges along the way, this design is finished off with a pretty picot edge.

To make this, you’ll need:

4 skeins of Canopy Fingering. We used the Red Ginger colorway.
US 4 32-inch circular needle

New Brooklyn Tweed: Shelter Marls!

Brooklyn Tweed yarns are carefully considered and thoughtfully executed. Whenever they add something new, it’s always exciting. This fall, Shelter has an addition to it’s palette: marls! Three lovely neutrals, narwhal, newsprint and caribou, are now available to add more texture to your Brooklyn Tweed knits.

When we got our advance shipment, the newsprint colorway won my heart in an instant! I cast on for a new Georgetown sweater that night, and I am now working my way through the back. The marl adds depth and interest to this simple stockinette cardigan. It will be perfect for layering on top of tees, tunics and dresses all winter long.

Since one is never enough enough, especially when it comes to Shelter sweaters, I have a few ideas for the narwhal & caribou colors too! At left is Michele Wang’s Bedford, a pullover that would be so cozy in narwahl that you would wear it everyday. In the center is Fort by Jared Flood, a handsome sweater that I would love to see in the caribou color on my fella. On the right is Julie Hoover’s Hudson, which let’s face it would look amazing in any colorway. It looks like I may be headed for an all-marl fall!

Liz Gipson Weaving Trunk Show + Demonstration

Weaving Trunk Show + Demonstration
Friday, June 17 from 6 to 8pm: FREE!

Come see what weaving’s all about! With a rigid heddle loom like Schacht’s Cricket, you can weave scarves, placemats, table runners, and much more – and in less time than it takes to knit or crochet. And you can use the same yarn you’d use for knitting, in fact, weaving is a great stash buster! On Friday night, Liz Gipson will demonstrate how to set-up and use a rigid heddle loom and have the samples from her book, Weaving Made Easy.

Liz Gipson is one of weaving’s top – if not the top – rigid heddle weaving designers and teachers. She has a degree in wool science and has worked in the industry at companies like Schacht Spindle and Interweave. She’s appeared on PBS, The DIY Network, and HGTV. Liz is the author of Weaving Made Easy, which was recently revised and updated. Now working on her own, Liz designs weaving patterns and teaches rigid heddle weaving. We’re very excited to welcome her to Loop and hope you’ll join us for an evening of weaving!
