Kate Oates’ FOR YOU Knitalong

Lovebird Cowl

We’re in love with Kate Oates’ new Lovebirds Cowl! With pairs of birds and little hearts, it’s an interesting knit and a warm and whimsical cowl. The pattern’s available for pre-order now through the end of January at a special price. You can also join Kate and other knitters in a knitalong that starts February 1.

Lovebird Cowl

For the Lovebirds Cowl, Kate used 2 colors of our Studio yarn. With that you can knit either size – a shorter cowl that sits close to the neck or a longer infinity scarf. Kate used smock and cadmium for the cowl (on left), and india ink and skylight for the infinity scarf.

In addition to the cowl, Kate’s designed a new sweater for the knitalong, the Katy Tunic. It’s an oversized boxy pullover with ribbed sleeves and a cable collar. Katy works up quickly at 3.5 stitches to the inch in a yarn like Berroco Peruvia Quick or Cascade 128 Superwash, both of which are available in the shop.

Bronwyn Scarf

Bronwyn is a big, beautiful scarf knit in Blue Sky Bulky! There is no doubt that you will be warm and cozy wearing this astonishingly soft 50/50 blend of wool and alpaca. Blue Sky’s clear, bright colors are a welcome antidote to a cold winter’s day.

Big Scarf

You will have so much fun knitting Bronwyn! One scarf took me about 2 episodes of Homeland (I love that show!) – so this scarf is perfect for checking off your holiday knit list.

The stitch pattern is a simple fisherman’s rib that creates a very fluffy, dimensional fabric. It’s very similar to brioche but it’s much less tricky. It uses a K1b, or K1 below, to make the extra puffy stitches.

K1b is exactly what it sounds like- instead of knitting the next stitch on your needle, you knit the one BELOW the next stitch on your needle and then slip both stitches off the left hand needle.

Here’s a video to give you a visual, if you need it!

Big Scarf 2

Bronwyn feels substantial, looks beautiful and knits quickly- making it ideal for gift knitting. Here’s our free pattern, enjoy!

Madelinetosh Home & Cowl

It’s officially autumn, and what better way to welcome a new season than with a brand new yarn from Madelinetosh! Home is the latest addition to the Tosh family, and we love it already.

Irresistably soft, this superwash merino wool sports Tosh’s signature colors at a fast knitting 2.5 stitches per inch. Due to the lofty ply, Home knits into a surprisingly light fabric given it’s chunky stature! Knit it on a US 10-13 needle, depending on desired density & drape.

As soon as Home arrived, I thought that it had COWLS written all over it! I brought 2 skeins home and cast on for a simple seed stitch cowl. I knit at a leisurely pace and it was easily completed in a weekend.

The Home Cowl is lightweight and warm with an exciting combination of texture and color. This soft ring of fabric will look chic now with a jean jacket, and be super cozy tucked into your puffy coat this winter. Be ready to knit a few more, though, because your best friend, your sister and your mom are going to want one as well!

Here’s the pattern- enjoy!

2 skeins Madelinetosh Home, shown in cardinal
US 11 32-inch circular needle

Finished Size:
9.5″ tall, 42″ circumference

2.5 sts/inch in seed stitch.

Cast on 95 sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches.

Round 1: K1, P1

Round 2: P1, K1

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until you have a few yards left of your 2nd skein.

Cast off loosely in pattern.

Weave in ends. Get cozy!
