We’re very pleased to welcome knitwear designer Josh Bennett to Loop on Sunday, January 27, 2013! He’ll be teaching two workshops – one on designing and customizing sweater patterns and the other on tips to make your garments look professional.
Josh has designed for CFDA Award winner Michael Bastian, GANT by Michael Bastian, and Project Runway winner Irina Shabayeva. He has a hand knit collaboration line with Michael Bastian, Michael Bastian by Josh Bennett, available at Bergdorf Goodman and Sak’s 5th Ave stores.
Josh learned to knit as a child, and began knitting again in 2000. After working in and managing several yarn shops in New York, he began designing and knitting for private clients.
His original designs have been published in Rowan Magazine, Vogue Knitting, Knit Simple, Knit.1, Knitscene, Knit Local by Tanis Gray, and on his web site www.JoshBennettNYC.com.

In this class, you’ll learn the start to finish of writing a basic sweater pattern. You will learn all the math to be able to start creating your own original designs and modify existing patterns for different fits. We’ll also discuss fits for different body types, picking the right fiber, knitting the correct gauge swatch, and measuring the body correctly. Tips and techniques on how to make your garment look more professional and have a better wear will also be discussed.
Materials – Calculator, tape measure, 1 ball of solid worsted cotton, one ball of solid worsted wool, needles that work with that weight of yarn. Inspirational tear sheets (photos, pictures, garments, anything that inspires you).
Tip and Tricks: Making Your Garment Look More Professional
$60 – 2 to 5pm
In this class you’ll learn all Josh’s tips and tricks to making your garment look more professional. He’ll demonstrate different cast on methods, increases, decreases, body shaping, and other special techniques that he uses when designing for himself and other fashion designers.
Materials – Calculator, tape measure, 1 ball of solid worsted cotton, one ball of solid worsted wool, needles that work with that weight of yarn.
